Neurocritical Care Fellowship

Neurocritical Care Fellowship

The Neurocritical Care Fellowship is a two-year clinical program designed to train board eligible neurologists in neurocritical care. We seek to train leaders in Neurocritical Care in an academic medical center environment. The fellowship program is accredited by UCNS. Fellows are eligible for subspecialty board certification in Neurocritical Care at the completion of training. Fellows spend time in dedicated neurocritical care units at the UCSF Moffitt Hospital (chiefly neurovascular patients) and San Francisco General Hospital Neurotrauma ICU. In addition, fellows will also train in the medical and surgical critical care units, spend two months in anesthesia training, and have a choice of electives. All rotations satisfy the requirement for board eligibility. The UCSF training program is among the most rigorous and recognized for well-trained, competent Neurointensivists.

Fellows will also gain exposure to clinical research through didactic teaching in the basics of biostatistics, epidemiology and study design, and exposure to clinical trials. Fellows will be matched with a research mentor and can carry out his or her own research project, with the expectation that fellows will complete a first-authored manuscript and/or present at a national meeting.
